Despite a profile that keeps climbing, Melbourne anthemic rockers The Getaway Plan have decided to call it a day. The guys issued a joint statement on their MySpace today confirming: “We have come to a decision that The Getaway Plan will no longer continue to make music together.”
It comes after a stellar run for the band, including big wins in the 2008 AIR Awards. Before they bow out, though, The Getaway Plan will be hitting the road for some final shows. Tickets on sale 9am, Friday 6 March.
Saturday 30 May – The Roundhouse, Sydney (Lic/AA)
Saturday 13 June – The Hi-Fi, Brisbane (U-18 Doors at 3pm)
Saturday 13 June – The Hi-Fi, Brisbane (18+)
Saturday 20 June – The Hi-Fi, Melbourne (18+)
Sunday 21 June – The Hi-Fi, Melbourne (U-18 Doors at 3pm)
Resolved to bow out while they’re ahead, The Getaway Plan has added more shows to its final Australian tour. The Melbourne lads have predictably sold out both dates in their hometown, prompting them to tack on two more. The band will now also go to Adelaide and do an encore night in Sydney.
In addition to the farewell tour, The Getaway Plan is releasing a new CD through Boomtown Records. Entitled 2004-2009, it’s a compilation of tracks from the band’s short career; taking in demos, b-sides and singles. If you’re keen to see the four-piece in action one last time, we suggest you move promptly.

On 25 February 2009, The Getaway Plan announced in their MySpace blog that they would disband in 2009. The band stated:
"There comes a point in everyone's lives where they must sit back and assess if everything is working the way it should be. We have come to a decision that The Getaway Plan will no longer continue to make music together. The past 5 years have been an incredible journey and we would never have been able to say that without the support of each and every one of you.
We are in the final stages of planning one last national tour. Please come along and party with TGP one last time. It would mean the world to us.
This is in no way the end of our careers as musicians. Music is and always will be the biggest part of our lives. Thank you all so much for everything; we are all eternally grateful for your support."
